Air Handlers—Installation & Replacement

Quiet, steady airflow for heating and cooling. An air handler is the indoor heart of a central system: it houses the blower, the coil (for AC or heat pump), and optional electric heat strips. When sized and set up right, it delivers even temperatures and cleaner air through your ducts.

How it works (simple)

The ECM blower moves air across the coil and into your ductwork. In cooling, the coil removes heat and humidity; in heating (with a heat pump), it adds warmth. Optional heat strips provide backup/aux heat or standalone electric heat.

When it’s a good fit

  • Replacing an old, noisy, or weak blower cabinet
  • Upgrading to a heat pump or higher-efficiency AC
  • Fixing airflow issues (hot/cold rooms, short cycling)
  • Going all-electric where gas isn’t available

Types & options

  • Variable-speed ECM blowers for quiet starts and consistent airflow
  • Coil matched to your AC/heat pump capacity (SEER2/HSPF2 compatibility)
  • Electric heat strips (5–20 kW), single- or multi-stage
  • Filtration upgrades: 4–5″ media cabinet (MERV 11–13) for better IAQ and lower pressure drop
  • Condensate safety: float switches, pumps, and proper traps for leak protection

Installation process

  1. On-site assessment: load, duct/static pressure, electrical capacity, condensate path.
  2. Options & written pricing after the visit: blower type, coil match, heat strips, filtration.
  3. Permits & scheduling (as required).
  4. Professional install & start-up: sealed cabinets, correct airflow, charge/controls verification, condensate safety test.
  5. Inspection & handoff: walkthrough, filter sizes, maintenance tips.
